On January 27, Mike Denny saw 2 EURASIAN WIGEONS in Casey Pond in
McNary NWR. The pond is on the west side of US 12 north of the
Walluwa pulp mills and just inside McNary. Also there were 3
adult MEW GULLS, 7 TUNDRA SWANS, and about 30 HOODED MERGANSERS.
Just over the railroad tracks from the pond, in the Columbia
River, were 2 male and 1 female RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS, a new
Walla Walla County record. On the poop piles just north of
Walluwa Mike also observed a single adult GLAUCOUS GULL. See
Washington DeLorme p. 40, c-1.
.
Walluwa Mike also observed a single adult GLAUCOUS GULL. See
Washington DeLorme p. 40, c-1.
.
Also from January 27, Mike reports a female ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD in
Kennewick. To get to where the bird was, head toward US 395 and
turn left onto South Yelm. Follow Yelm to West 4th Avenue. Cross
West 4th Avenue and turn into West 4th Place. Check the feeder
behind 2409 West 4th Place.
.
On January 22, Mike Denny and Andy Stepniewski saw a single
HARRIS' SPARROW at the entrance to Bennington Lake, formerly Mill
Creek Reservoir, just east of Walla Walla. See Washington DeLorme
p. 41, d, half way between 6 and 7.
.
Diane Weber reports 2 PRAIRIE FALCONS from January 29. One was
seen along Washington 26 about 0.25 mile west of the Pampa Pond.
See Washington DeLorme p. 56, b-1. The second was between
Kahlotus and Washtucna along Washington 260 near mile post 30.
See Washington DeLorme p. 55, c-5. Diane also reports 2
DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANTS at Lower Monumental Dam
(Washington DeLorme p. 54, d-4) and 4 more at Central Ferry
(Washington DeLorme p. 56, d-2).
