I once observed "cawcophony" such a Dennis described.

The incident occurred in Bellingham, WA, near Lake Whatcom. There
were at least 100 birds involved, probably more. They were high in
the canopy, and I couldn't clearly see what they were doing. I always
assumed they were after a raptor. Their vocalizations were louder and
more varied than usual, probably those troop rallying calls. It was
almost frightening. No, it *was* frightening. They were right over
my head.

That was over twenty years ago, and I've never seen anything like it
since.
