MS>birding). The Tofino Inlet area is supposed to be great birding
MS>otherwise, plus a chance for us to get the FT, which I believe is only
MS>the 3rd record in the lower 48. Anyway, just a suggestion. If we did

In my opinion, any trip to Tofino should include a walk around (over) the
rocks, tide pools, and a peek under the dock. The Seattle Aquarium should
have as much marine life! I have never seen so many 21-ray starfish and
(easily) 3ft. diameter anemones, not to mention the King crabs.

As you're heading up the highway toward Tofino, south of town you will pass
(first) Pacific Sands Beach Resort, then MacKenzie Beach Resort (both are
great places to stay). Each of these will allow you access to the beach.

Spent a week at Pacific Sands once. We discovered a Bald Eagle had a
schedule of heading south along the beach at 10:00 AM and back north at
3:00 PM. He loved to surprise us from behind from about one foot above us.
Quite a sight to see that wing span go a foot over your head!

After you enter Tofino the highway "ends" and you have to choose to go left
or right. If you go left, then right the road takes you to the docks. There
is a lower floating dock that provides a great view of the marine life
under the large dock. We've seen a number of King crabs dueling here.

By May the Grey whales should be in the area. There used to be a guy that
had a Zodiac (small boat) that would take you out to where the whales feed.
I haven't been able to find him for a few years though. He had a degree in
Marine Biology and was quite concerned for the whales well-being. He had a
cage over the propeller and would coast into the area of the whales. He
would then rub his boots on the side of the Zodiac. The squeak would
attract the whales right to the edge of the Zodiac! Needless to say we got
a bit wet.

Ah, sorry to ramble so much. Hope you like my travel guide. :-)

Take care,
Bruce
