I have agonized over sending this message for several months now because
I'm not sure where to draw the line between information service and
commercialism. So, if you think this is too commercial please let me
know, but be polite - no flaming messages will elicit a response from me.

Russell Ciochon ("sha-hawn") of Noriko I. Ciochon Natural History Books
can now receive requests for books from you via e-mail. This book vendor
deals mainly in used, rare, and out-of-print bird books, has a search
service, and encourages buyers to send want lists. Ciochon normally
inventories about 1,500 bird book titles from all continents. They
specialize in North America, South America, and Asia and also in 20th
century North American State bird books.

They will surface-mail you a free catalog of their current book inventory
but their respectable reprint & offprint collection is not cataloged so
you will need to inquire. Although they deal less in new bird books they
do provide any in-print bird book or field guide at publisher's prices.
Their search service includes all ornithology and other natural history.

They take Visa and Master Card, in addition to checks and money orders,
so you can place an order entirely from your computer - anytime of the
day. Russ has never failed to give me a prompt reply and has frequently
replied to me in minutes during the evening hours.

I have made numerous transactions with Russ over the last two years by
phone, and mail. In the past several months I have made a handful of
purchases throught e-mail, so can testify to the convenience of this
method - which I now greatly prefer. They also have a Fax number. My
experience with this book dealer has been all good so I can give them
a glowing recommendation. They have even located for me some rather
difficult to obtain titles. You should know that while I may earn some
"brownie points" by sending business their way I have *no* finanical
arrangement with them.

I made my decision to go ahead and post this to BirdChat because I
believe the service of your having this information overrides the
commercialism. How else could I have informed you?
