Dennis asked about Slate-colored Junco distribution east and west of the
Mountains. I have not reviewed all the records for Juncos yet so I can't
say what their status is one way or another with any confidence. However,
my general impression is that there is little very "east-west" difference in
the number of birds *reported*. I think that Slate-colored Juncos are not
reported as often as they are seen. It is also my impression that the
ratio for these birds is about 1/300.

Gene asked about Anna's Hummingbird. The first record that I have come
across is from November 30, 1965 from Seattle (American Birds 19:411).
Since then, they have been recorded every year. The first confirmed breeding
record that I have come across is from June 27, 1976 in Tacoma. I think
the first east side record in Yakima the fall of 1972 (American Birds 27:89).

It is intesting to note that they were not recorded in Oregon until
December 21, 1958 (Birds of Oregon, 1994). They are not mentioned at all
in Gabrielson and Jewett's Birds of Oregon, 1940.
