I am in the market for a spotting scope, and I have a friend looking for some
good binoculars. He has shopped around a little and was slightly taken aback
with the price of good bino's. I imagine I will react the same when I get
off my butt and look for a scope.

So, I thought I would query the good tweeters crowd for advice on our quest.
Does anyone know of places to find good used equipment of this nature?
Additionally, would you recommend buying new, as opposed to used scopes?
What has your experiences been? Any advice or info would be a big help.
