In terms of those appeals for conservation of threatened habitats, etc.
I noticed mention of tweeters and birdchat. I may mention a third, namely
the newsnet newsgroup "rec.birds". For those with unix access, simply
add the line:
rec.birds
to your .newsrc file. Unlike mailing lists like tweeters and birdchat,
the newsnet is actually a news reader, so messages are not mailed to you,
but rather reside on the news program which is started by typing:
rn
at the unix prompt. One may then page through the list of subjects, choosing
the postings he/she wishes to read. Of couse posting articles is also
allowable.
For more info, at the unix prompt type:
man rn
and use the space bar to page through the on-line manual, or q to quit.
Good luck and feel free to E-mail me directly for a more complete list
of the various (3000 odd newsgroups).
