On the "Marymoor question" - the dog-training area provides plastic bags
and bins, and the vast majority of the owners who take their dogs there
are conscietious picker-uppers. The exceptions are few, and usually
away from the paths, and I don't find I have to look down as much as I do
on some streets in Seattle. And I am amazed at how little attention the
birds pay to the dogs or the humans. (The only dog-bird interaction I've
seen was the reverse of what you'd expect, and was at Green Lake when the
Discovery Park Bald Eagles were lunching there daily. One of them began a
pass at a miniature terrier that was trailing on a long leash behind a
jogger, but, sensible bird, called off the venture at about 15'. The
dog-owning jogger was blissfully unaware that anything was going on; the
terrier was all too aware, and was having caniptions by that point, while
its owner impatiently tugged at the leash.) As for the model aerodrome:
I, too, would defend its right to be there - it's a multi-use recreational
area, and the model fliers only use a tiny part of it. The noise is
irritating to humans, particularly when they're trying to listen to birds,
but the birds ignore it, even the Northern Harriers that hunt within a
few yards of the activity. I'm sorry to hear the Harriers have been
harried by model planes, but I doubt if that happens very often.
