As one of the two originators of the Marymoor BIRDS thread - thanks,
Martin! Let me put out two questions to get the avian thread going again.

1) There appears to be a small number of Marsh Wrens wintering in Marymoor
in most years. In 1992-93, there was one particularly dense thicket on the
margin of the grassy area that scolded me in unmistakeably raspy tones
every time I walked past it from the end of November through early
February. I'd be interested in other people's observations on wintering
Marsh Wrens - and perhaps a concerted survey next winter.

2) How territorial are Belted Kingfishers? Though one often sees several
of them in close proximity, I've seen in Marymoor a couple of times what
appeared to be territorial disputes between males. On one occasion, the
two went head-to-head, beating each other with their wings, while rising
and falling in a dead perpendicular line, anywhere from practically
ground zero to about 50'. After a couple of minutes of this, the two went
off in opposite directions. Any similar observations? As a PS on
Kingfisher behavior, I watched one at Marymoor who had got his lower
mandible _through_ his fish, and was determined to extricate it without
losing his prey. His contortions were amazing, but he persevered for 15
mins. and finally got the thing down without dropping it.
