RE: Purple Loosestrife in Oregon

There's an information board about purple loosestrife at Morgan
Lake on the south side of Baskett Slough NWR, which is not too
far west of Salem, Oregon. It's pretty, but it's destructive.
There was concern that the pond would eventually be taken over,
and cease to be a pond.

Here is a quote from "Weeds of the West", published by the
Western Society of Weed Science, et al. and revised in 1992:

"Infestations can become dense and impede water flow in canals
and ditches. Reports of reduced habitat for wildlife use are
common."
