For those who are into shorebirds out there there was a Pacific
Golden Plover this afternoon (Sunday) on the Samish Flats consorting with
the Black-bellied Plovers and Dunlin. The bird is very bright golden and
much smaller than the BB Plovers. If I remember correctly it was a
couple miles south of the T on Bayview Edison Rd. just north of a
driveway with a large sign that says something like Meredith Apples
(definitely apples and definitely starts with an M). It was on the east
side of the road in the open wet fields. This is the first time I have
ever seen a golden plover in the winter and I believe they are fairly
unusual at this time of year but there was no mistaking it. Has anyone
else seen one in the area this winter?
