LoAnne, I think the best identification book is surely A Field Guide to the
Birds of Japan, by the Wild Bird Society of Japan, published in 1982. I
hope it's still in print (call Flora and Fauna Books). I can't imagine
there is any bird that is common in Korea that hasn't occurred in Japan,
and, because Korea is right next to Japan, the range maps are of great
value. The plates are a bit garish, but it's still the best available.
