Well, I guess I should have chosen my words with more care. I meant, they
flew down and started wading around in the pond. I've been reading too much
English literature ... "paddling" can also mean 'splashing about in the
shallows', or it did in the late 1800's to 1920's. I read a whole collection
of E.F. Benson short stories last night, and about 10 chapters of Plum today
at lunch, so I'm "what ho"ing and "jolly good"ing and "good shot, Old Bean"ing
like the best of them right now.
