The cream-faced variant of American Wigeon is not all that uncommon around Port
land, certainly more common than AmxEu hybrids, and perhaps more common than Eu
rasian in some years. I had suspected that these were older birds perhaps (as
in the whitening of older Black-footed Albatross) but have no evidence for this
. Is there evidence that even young males have this pattern. I've never seen
it discussed anywhere. bob obrien

(p.s. around Portland, you can always find one or two if you look for them, I'
ve seen many over the years).
