Hello, this is Portland Audubon's Rare Bird Alert. This recording was
made Thursday, February 16th. If you have anything to add, call Harry

The Finley refuge GYRFALCON continues to be seen, as does the hybrid CHESTNUT-
BACKED X BLACK-CAPPED CHICKADEE at Albany.

The TUFTED DUCK returned to the farm pond south of Independence during the week
and has remained. To reach the pond drive south from Independence on Corvallis Road
about 4 miles to Oak Hill Rd. The pond is on Oak Hill Rd.

Small groups of TREE SWALLOWS were reported in the Willamette Valley during the
week. The first were noted in the Lebanon and Fern Ridge areas FEB 9.

Two WHITE-TAILED KITES were at Grande Ronde in western Yamhill Co. FEB 12. A
SWAMP SPARROW was along Gopher Valley Road, north of Sheridan, that day. One
wonders how many of these birds are scattered about the state in other out of the way
locations.

Two NORTHERN SHRIKES were in Baskett Slough refuge FEB 11.

Among a large flock of gulls at the state women's prison in Salem FEB 11 was a very
white GLAUCOUS GULL and an adult WESTERN GULL.

A PEREGRINE FALCON has been reported several times during the week around
Hillsboro. On FEB 13 it was watched eating a robin in a neighborhood yard near the
Hillsboro airport.

On FEB 9 a flock of 85 [GRAY-CROWNED] HEPBURN'S ROSY-FINCHES were
along Misery Trail in Smith Rock State Park.
