At sunset today, 1/1/95 I saw a Gyrfalcon on Fir Island, on the Skagit
flats, just to the west of the Night Heron roost. We watched it for a few
minutes before it flew off to the south. Not a bad way to start off the
new year.

I was birding with Bud Anderson the day before, he said that there were
at least two Gyrs in the area this year so far. One has been regular at
the "west 90" and the "field 90". We also saw 4 Peregrines, 2 Kestrels,
and a Merlin on 12/31/94. There had been a Prairie Falcon in the area the
day before.
