I have found this topic to be quite relevant. In participating in Gap Analysis, I expect my students (elementary) to be quite accurate in recording what we see.
I don't come from a scientific background but I understand the need for accurate data. We count every thing we see/hear, and only if positively identified.
I can understand the competitive side of this activity, but I personally wish to remain a bit more relaxed about it. I too, can take pleasure in studying a robin at work.
