Hi Tweeters

On Dec 31, a Rock Wren was at Deception Pass State Park on Whidbey Is. in
driftwood at the S end of the West parking lot.

I haven't seen this posted, so I thought maybe it should be posted before
the trail gets too cold. This was passed on by a Vancouver BC birder,
Marilyn Tanner, who was there on New Year's weekend.

A Tree Swallow was on the Duncan, Vancouver Island, CBC on Jan 02; this is
a *first* January record for Vancouver Is. and possibly for the province.
As there are no other northern Washington/southern BC counts reporting Tree
Swallows, I'd suggest this may be a 'wrong-way' migrant rather than a
returning bird that's part of a northbound movement.

With this wonderful calm high pressure area sitting over us, though, some
Tree Swallows may decide it's late enough in the winter to chance a
northward push fairly soon. So it may be fun to post as they return to each
city, and monitor their migration as they move north. The earliest date for
their return to Vancouver BC is Feb 08 in a year with similar winter
weather, with the average return date Feb 20.

Will this winter never end? ;-)
