There is a small Red-breasted Sapsucker invasion of the lowlands; how many
people have seen evidence of that?

=============

Dennis, my apple trees are excellent evidence of Red-breasted Sapsucker
in the area. The trunk and lower limbs are ringed with marks of the birds
work. I don't know if I qualify for the lowlands. While the elevation
here is about 165' (much lower than much of Seattle) the climate is
several zones to the mountain. It hasn't gotten above freezing in a week
and the frost can almost support skies.

Actually we usually see one or two sapsuckers each fall on the trees. There
was one this winter that stayed about 2 weeks.

On anotehr subject, starting in early fall there have been one or two
Ravens about most days. Sometimes they just fly over but frequently they
circle and roost much like the hawks and bald eagles. Our view is a
bit restricted by the hill and trees as we are in the bottom of a
rather narrow river valley east of Carnation.
