I have put out the packaged suet mix and even bought a hanger for it. All I
get are starlings. Any way to discourage the Starlings while encourage the
flickers?

I get starlings too, but one thing I think helps is to you get the suet
packed in the plastic boxes. Then I cut the paper front off, and stuff the
whole suet, including the package down, into the hanger. That way the
starlings can't get it from the top, but it doen't stop the woodpeckers (I
also get downys (and even a Bewick's wren occasionally). The starlings can
still get to it but not as easy as before.

I used to go through a suet every few days (talk about expensive!!), but once
I just left it the container it made a huge difference.
