Re primaries, the upper wing shows little contrast with the
secondaries/mantle and there is also little contrast with the tail, which
would seem consistent with first year Iceland as opposed to Thayer's
according to Grant and other sources. The underwing shows pristine, white
primaries contrasting with the rest of the wing.
Following Gene Hunn's admonition will try to obtain photos.

Actually, I was using "Iceland" Gull to mean white-primaried birds, which
have been reported from the Pacific Coast on several occasions. I don't
really
believe that these birds are Iceland Gulls, the mystery is exactly what some
of these records are. Actually, even eastern white-primaried Iceland gulls
are probably _kumlieni_ and not _glaucoides_ as there are white-winged birds
that breed within the range that has been described for _kumlieni_. Maybe
I should have asked what the Washington bird looks like before having jumped
in. Does it have grey on the primaries or completely white primaries??
