This is Kas Dumroese with the northern Idaho / eastern Washington /
northeastern Oregon bird hotline for Friday, January 13, 1995.

The COMMON GRACKLE was still being seen this past week at the
Walla Walla College Dairy Farm just west of Walla Walla. On
January 7, Mike Denny reported a RUSTY BLACKBIRD was also spotted
at the dairy, in with European Starlings and Red-winged
Blackbirds. To get to the dairy, head west from Walla Walla on US
12 about 5 miles to Last Chance Road. Turn south onto Last Chance
and continue until it meets Whitman Avenue. Turn left onto
Whitman and follow it to the dairy. Please park by the white silo
bags, not up by the buildings. Feel free to walk about. Check
the corn field to the west as well.

The ICELAND GULL is still being seen in the Lewiston-Clarkston
area. John and Marty Hirth saw the bird January 8 at the
confluence of the Snake and Clearwater Rivers. A good vantage
point for viewing this area is the northeast end of the Costco
parking lot in Clarkston. The gull has been seen from the
confluence all the way up the Clearwater River to the Spalding
Park area. See Idaho DeLorme p. 54, a-1.

Scott Ray reports the SNOWY OWL first reported in mid-December
about 3.5 miles south of Moses Lake, Washington, was seen again on
January 11. Take Washington 17 south and check between roads 2
SE, 5 SE and M, as in magpie, West. See Washington DeLorme p. 69,
d-7.

Mike Denny reports a flock of about 30 COMMON REDPOLLS up the
North Fork of Coppei Creek east of Walla Walla. To get to the
flock, head east from Walla Walla on US 12 8.5 miles to Dixie.
About 0.75 mile east of Dixie, turn onto Lewis Peak Road. Within
about 150 yards, the road forks. The left fork follows Coppei
Creek. Follow it about 6.75 miles to where the birds were seen
January 7. See Washington DeLorme p. 41, c-8.
