To expand further to Dick Cannings' response to a recent Tweeter's question
about ptarmigan north of Vancouver, BC: Tony Greenfield of Halfmoon Bay on
the Sechelt Peninsula reports that, in the past 3 years, while summer hiking
and winter skiing, he has been unable to find the Rock Ptarmigan that were on
Mt Steele on the Sechelt Peninsula to about 1990. However, he feels that
they could still be there or on nearby Panther Peak, and will keep
searching. Since I, too, want to see a Rock Ptarmigan, he will report any
good findings to me at the Victoria Rare Bird Alert. I'll pass that good
news on to Tweeters.
