Just a note re California and Mountain Quails. The California's native
range would appear to have been restricted to southern Oregon, thus it's
not likely native. Mountain Quail, however, was collected by Lewis &
Clark (Clark to be precise) at the mouth of the Sandy River in mid-April
1806 and thus was very likely native in the Columbia Gorge. Birds seen
near Lyle, for example, do not correspond to any known introductions and
may well be from a truly native population. Not so those around Olympia
& in the Blues.
