It's that time of year again.

TEMPORARY WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT POSITIONS AVAILABLE SPRING 1995

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife is developing a recruitment
list for full and part-time temporary positions that will be available
statewide. The duration of work is usually three to nine months. Most of
these positions require field work and include, but are not limited to,
bald eagle and black bear research and surveys for marbled murrelet,
raptor, western gray squirrel and western pond turtle. Marbled murrelet
positions being recruited are:


Scientific Technician 2: salary $1954 per month ($11.23 per hr)

Min. qual. (for Sci Tech 2 class): High school grad or GED, incl. one year
high school science, and two yrs college level course work in natural
sciences. Special qualification/requirement is normal hearing ability
according to a Pure Tone Air Test given by a certified audiologist. The
Marbled Murrelet Field Survey Technician conducts marbled murrelet forest
surveys according to Pacific Seabird Group survey protocol to provide
information on murrelet distribution, relative abundance, site occupancy,
and habitat use. Following specified procedures, will establish survey
stations, collect data, and perform mapping. The technician will work in
2-3 person teams to establish vegetation sampling plots and describe forest
habitat attributes according to procedure. Duration of employment is April
1 - approx. October 31, 1995.

Wildlife Biologist 1: salary $2047 per month ($11.76 per hour)

Min. qual. (for Wildlife Bio 1 class): Bachelor's degree in wildlife
biology, wildlife science, wildlife ecology, wildlife management or
zoology, or bachelor's degree in natural resource science or environmental
science with 12 semester or 18 quarter hours of wildlife course work.
Special qualification/requirement is prior murrelet forest survey and
supervisory experience, as well as normal hearing according to a Pure Tone
Air Test. The Marbled Murrelet Survey Field Team Leader leads marbled
murrelet forest survey teams conducting surveys according Pacific Seabird
Group protocol. Assists Project Leader in survey protocol training,
logistical support and other project needs. Responsible for quality control
of field surveys and adherence to data recording procedures. Duration of
employment is March 1 - approx. November 15, 1995.

Murrelet work involves: pre-dawn hours, including driving logging roads in
the dark; accurate use of maps and compass; some camping in remote
locations; hiking in steep terrain; and inclement weather. The project is
designed to gather information on murrelet distribution, occupancy, and
habitat use on lands administered by the Dept. of Natural Resources on the
Olympic Peninsula and southwest Washington. Washington State Employment
