To add to what Gene Hunn wrote, the Yellow Rail shot by the hunter is in
the Slater Museum collection. To those who have been following the
discussion of collecting on BIRDCHAT, I would add that we wouldn't even
know that this species occurred in Washington if it weren't for (a) one
having been collected, albeit by a hunter and perhaps by accident (rails
are/were legally hunted in many parts of the country), and (b) a
far-sighted museum ornithologist preserving the specimen.
