Hello, this is Portland Audubon's Rare Bird Alert. This recording was
made Thursday, January 12th. If you have anything to add, call Harry Nehls
at 233-3976.

An adult SLATY-BACKED GULL was observed on Sauvie Island JAN 7. It has been
seen several times since at the pellet plant meadows along Gillihan Loop Road, near the
bridge. A gray-backed GLAUCOUS GULL is in the same flock. There's large numbers of
HERRING, THAYER'S and a few WESTERN GULLS in this flock also.

A YELLOW-BILLED MAGPIE was reported JAN 8, along Hwy 74 in Umatilla County,
within a mile or two of the Morrow Co. line. All previous reports of YELLOW-BILLED
MAPGPIES have turned out to be Black-billed Magpies with something yellow in their
bills.

A YELLOW-BILLED LOON was found at Netarts boat basin JAN 7. It's been seen there
since. A flock of 90 RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS were at the mouth of Whiskey
Creek on Netarts Bay JAN 8.

Three TRUMPETER SWANS were among the TUNDRA SWANS at Cunningham Lake
on Sauvie Island JAN 11. Several hundred SNOW GEESE were near the road at Walton
Beach that day. A stray SNOW GOOSE was in a farm field near Canby JAN 8, for a rare
Clackamas Co. record. A male BARROW'S GOLDENEYE was on Oswego Lake during
the week.

A flock of 40 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS continue to be seen in Bend; and a flock of 100
was in the town of Wallowa, in NE Oregon. Another was in Joseph.

That's it for this week.
