Hello, this is Portland Audubon's Rare Bird Alert. This recording was
made Thursday, January 19th. If you have anything to add, call Harry Nehls
at 233-3976.

Although there's still large numbers of gulls at the pellet plant, and in many other areas of
Sauvie Island, the SLATY-BACKED GULL has not been seen since Saturday, JAN 14.
That day at least 4 GLAUCOUS GULLS, 3 WESTERN GULLS, and a medium-sized
pure white gull were in the pellet plant flock. All are now gone.

TRUMPETER SWANS are still being seen among the TUNDRA SWAN flocks on
Sauvie Island, so check the flocks carefully. On JAN 18 an adult and an immature were
with 4 TUNDRAS in the farm fields along Gillihan Loop Road, at the sharp curve about
2-1/2 miles from the bridge. On JAN 14 a SWAMP SPARROW was in the berry bushes
beside the parking lot at the end of Reeder Road on the east side of Sauvie Island. An
adult RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was in the trees near the Scappoose sewage ponds.
One or 2 ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS are also in the Scappoose/Sauvie Island area. A
TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE has been at Mt. Hood Community College in Troutdale all
week. It remains at the NW corner of the building near the gated parking lot.

A YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD was in Baskett Slough refuge JAN 13. That day
Coville Road through the refuge was closed due to high water over the roadway.

An immature BROWN PELICAN has been in the Hammond boat basin during the week.
A male CINNAMON TEAL was at Brownsmead JAN 15.

A RED-BREASTED MERGANSER was at Mosier JAN 15.

That's it for this week.
