Subject: Saw-whet Owl query

Hi Tweeters,

I am posting this for a colleague from North Carolina who is visiting BC
this May. The goal of his trip is to trap Saw-whet Owls in order to get
blood samples for a study of genetic variation in Saw-whets. The owls
are released after taking blood, and the procedure does them no harm.
Does anyone have suggestions, general or specific, about good strategies,
habitats, or specific sites for finding Saw-whets in BC at that time of
year? I don't know his specific itinerary yet, nor exactly how far he
will be able to range, so at this point *any* suggestions are welcome.

While general advice on finding Saw-whets is certainly appropriate for
tweeters, I think e-mailing me is preferable to posting to tweeters if you
have specific sites to suggest.

Sincerely,

Chris Hill
