There's a good rookery at the intersection of West Valley Highway and
Peasley Canyon Road (right underneath Highway 18, more or less) near
Auburn. Quite a few nests, especially so close to development. There's
a parking area there -- it usually has a couple of trucks peddling
strange backyard windmill things. There are also a couple of trails back
through the connected wetlands/woods -- I helped the Rainier Audubon
(under my ma's leadership) build the trails back in the late 70s.
