Hello, this is Portland Audubon's Rare Bird Alert. This recording was
made Thursday, January 26th. If you have anything to add, call Harry
Nehls at 233-3976.

A very cooperative SLATY-BACKED GULL, an adult GLAUCOUS GULL, and a 3rd
year GLAUCOUS GULL, are among the gull flock at the pellet plant on
Sauvie Island. Several flocks of SANDHILL CRANES are now on the island,
as new birds have moved in.

A YELLOW-BILLED LOON was at Yaquina Bay JAN 21.

The Netarts Bay YELLOW-BILLED LOON has not been seen during the week.
But 2 LONG-BILLED CURLEWS were at Netarts Bay JAN 19, and the SCRUB JAY
was seen again in the town of Netarts.

A MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRD and a 2nd year GLAUCOUS GULL were at the South Jetty
of the Columbia River JAN 21.

A WHITE-TAILED KITE and a [NORTHERN] GOSHAWK were in Grande Ronde, in
western Polk Co. JAN 24.

Up to 3 BLACK SWANS are now being seen in Jackson Bottom, in Hillsboro -
usually among the CANADA GEESE there. These may be the same BLACK SWANS
that have been reported in the Willamette Valley for the last several
years. No one knows where they come from, or who owns them.

A BARRED OWL was seen JAN 19 at Ritner Creek Park, in southwest Polk Co.
Over 10,000 DUNLIN were at Baskette Slough refuge JAN 19.

There was an increase in ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK sightings during the week;
including one hovering over a NW Portland apartment house.

A flock of over 2,000 MALLARDS were inside the mouth of the Deschutes
River JAN 22. Five BALD EAGLES were at the mouth of Mosier Creek that
day.

That's it for this week.
