Calbird-L Mail List is a mail list for California Birders and their
friends about birds and birding in the Golden State. This List concerns
wild birds only. Posts concerning birds as pets or about falconry should
go elsewhere.

Scope of discussions:

Discussions can cover almost any aspect of birding or
ornithology as they apply to California. These could cover taxonomy,
distribution, habits, and locations of California birds. State and
county records could be discussed. Pelagic birding should certainly be
included. We could use the List as an alert for good state birds. CBC
and Breeding Bird Survey lists can be shared. We also think this List
would a good place to share some of the pioneer work going on in that
other California - Baja California.

The list can be used to publicize bird related activities of
the various California Audubon Societies, the Western Field
Ornithologists and the California Bird Records Committee, and any local
bird clubs that might choose to participate.

Discussions should not cover birding experiences in places other
than California. General discussions of binoculars, cameras, sound
recording equipment, etc., are best left to Birdchat and rec.birds. Also
best left to these other vehicles are dreams, "silly lists", and all
discussions that deal with birds in general as opposed to birds in
California. Not that we are necessarily opposed to these discussions -
but we feel the other venues are better suited for them.

All of this is open to discussion and we can certainly be flexible
in order to better address the subscribers' interests.
