The infamous "Logging without Laws" rider still tags along on the
revised spending cuts bill, only slightly revised (to carry on the
savage [sic!] logging for a year less than originally proposed). The
original spending bill, vetoed by Clinton, was revised and passed by the
House this week; it was expected to pass the Senate last Friday, but two
Demo Senators --Paul Wellstone (Minn) and Carol Mosely-Braun (Ill)--
prevented a final vote (not for reasons related to the logging or other
environmental issues) , and the measure was shelved for the weekend.

The President said he will sign this revision. So, the President will
sign into law the Logging without Laws rider of Senator Gorton (R,
Wash).

Clinton has put up a smoke screen around this issue, stating that some
revisions, negotiated with the White House, address the original
bill's damning environmental provisions (NOT!). He also says he's been
given assurances by the Senator (Hatfield?) from Oregon that there will
be no abusive logging ??!!

NOW, it is time to thank the President. Oh, btw, Mr. Gore, Mr. Babbitt,
you can leave now; the president is doing just fine without you.
