Greetings, Tweets-

Celebrated the 4th yesterday by taking a canoe trip on the Black River,
which flows out of Black Lake here in OLY to the Chehalis River..we went
down to Rochester to the Black River Canoe Club and paid the guy $38
(incl tax)..the trip takes up to 6 hours to go the 18 or so miles..early
morning sees the place alive with birds..we saw black headed grosbeaks
singing their heads off, common yellow throats, W.Wood peewee, some
unidentified flycatchers and warblers, ravens, kingfishers, green heron,
mallards, woodies, an osprey nest, complete w/ one almost fledged young, a
soaring redtail, Cooper's hawk, robins, crows, lots of other birds we
didn't get to ID..it's a great trip and early morning has birds everywhere

Finished off the day at Ft. Lewis fireworks watching your tax dollars at
work...you'll be pleased to note it was an awesome display!!
^^^^^^^
While we were waiting for the show to begin a pair (or at least 2
individuals..relationship unknown) of barn swallows continually buzzed
the crowd where we were in the bleachers doing their thing long after dark..
They quit when they turned out the lights.
