On July 4th, I took my friend Steve Pink down to McChord AFB to look for
a Hermit Warber. We got to the South Approach Zone (SAZ) at about 5:45
AM. We were heading down the north-south road in the SAZ to get to the
big stands of Doug Firs where the Hermits were found. We were about 200
feet from the end of the road, when a large black furry animal with big
shrap claws and long pointed teeth jumped out in from of my car. I
quickly ran through the list of animals that it could be. I eliminated
Big Foot right away on account that it was only about 5 feet tall. The only
other lagical choice that I had was BLACK BEAR! Yes indeed, a Black Bear.

We did not find any Hermit Warblers, or very many birds at all for that
matter. The bear made up for it though.
