Tweeters,

Regarding breeding habitat choice of Townsend's versus Yellow-rumps. Elevation
might be important only because tree stature and density tends to be greater in
the mid-elevation forests, favored by Townsend's. As one approaches 5,000' in
eastern King County, I envision openings in the forest beginning to occur,
signalling the lower subalpine zone. Am I guessing right here? That's
Yellow-rump habitat. Overall, though I believe the density of trees is more
important than their height, as I can rattle off quite a few sites where dense
regenerating Douglas fir - only 15-20 m high, harbors lots of Townsend's
Warblers.
