Hello, this is Portland Audubon Society's Rare Bird Alert. This
recording was made Thursday, June 22nd. If you have anything to add,
call Harry Nehls at 233-3976.

Birds are apparently having trouble nesting this year. There have been
many nesting failures. Many birds appear to be wandering around without
even trying [to nest].

The male ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK returned JUN 10 to the same area where
it summered last year in Cape Meares Village, and appears to be again
summering.

A flycatcher giving CORDILLERAN [FLYCATCHER]-type calls were heard JUN
19 near Waldport.

An ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHER was at the south end of Oaks Bottom in
Portland JUN 14, but apparently did not remain. On JUN 16 a LAZULI
BUNTING was in the Bottoms. COMMON NIGHTHAWKS have been seen again this
year on Sauvie Island, and it is thought they may be breeding in the
north end of the Island.

On JUN 15 and 16 RED-EYED VIREOS were found in 6 different areas along
the lower Sandy River. A breeding plumaged COMMON LOON was at Roslyn
Lake, near the town of Sandy. A pair of NORTHERN SHOVELERS with 7 chicks
were on the Molalla sewage ponds JUN 16.

That day [JUN 16] a male WILLIAMSON'S SAPSUCKER was in the [Avid?] burn
near Timothy Lake on the west slope of the Cascades.

On JUN 19 an EASTERN KINGBIRD was found near Scotts Mill in southern
Clackamas County.

Unusual birds continue to be seen east of the Cascades. A PACIFIC LOON
was on Malheur Reservoir JUN 14.

A LEAST FLYCATCHER was in the forest at Spring Creek, near La Grande,
JUN 17. Territorial LEAST FLYCATCHERS are now at Clyde Holliday State
Park, and apparently are breeding again this year.

A ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK was reported from Silver Lake JUN 16.

A male NORTHERN PARULA and a pair of BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHERS were in a
brushy area at the north base of Glass Butte, near Hampton, JUN 16.

A female NORTHERN PARULA was at Malheur headquarters JUN 14. A RED-EYED
VIREO was at Fields JUN 19. An active BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER nest was
found in Frenchglen JUN 11.

That's it for this week.
