Your message with the subject line

"qterm in .cshrc"

has been received by the technical support group at Northwest Nexus.
Thanks for sending us electronic mail instead of telephoning.

- This autoreply has been UPDATED as of 11 June 1995.

- While we try to answer your inquiries as soon as possible, we do
prioritize the mail we receive and answer the most urgent messages
first. We also tend to favor concise messages that provide enough
detail to let us diagnose your problem and provide an answer.

- We may answer your inquiry with a FAQ (Frequently Asked Question
answer-sheet) if we feel that's the best response to your particular
needs. FAQs aren't brush-offs -- they're detailed responses based on
questions that have been asked so frequently that we've been able to
spend the time crafting an answer that'll cover all the bases.
If you feel that a FAQ hasn't answered your question (after reading
the FAQ first, of course ;-), please restate your question and
perhaps provide more detail so that we can see what's different about
your situation.

- Because of our currently very high volume of inquiries, we place a
low priority on providing individual replies to system trouble
reports: we fix the problem instead, then provide updates on system
status and on fixed problems on our system status line:

1 206 453-8908

Watch the halcyon.announce newsgroup (use any newsreader from the
shell or via a SLIP or PPP account) or the welcome message (type
"welcome" at the shell prompt) for the latest system new and fixes.

- We have a Most-Frequently Asked Questions document that's very likely
to answer your question; we last updated it near the end of April
1995. You can get a copy of it by sending a mail message to

majordomo at halcyon.com

with the following lines in the *body* of the message:

get nexus-faqs topfaqs.faq
end

If you want a list of the FAQs that support can send you, add

get nexus-faqs faqslist

before the "end" line above. You'll receive the list via e-mail
within the hour. After you receive the list of FAQs and review it,
you can request a *particular* FAQ by sending the exact name of the
FAQs you want to support at halcyon.com. Note that support at halcyon.com
is NOT a Majordomo server but a mailbox that's read and answered by
real people. Please be patient, and please request no more than five
FAQs per day.

Even though we're using Majordomo to distribute these files, there
isn't a Majordomo "nexus-faqs" mailing list, so don't waste your time
sending subscription requests to the Majordomo server.

- Here are some very brief answers to our top questions:

Trouble Getting Mail with Eudora
-------------------------------
Changes to the server configs mean that you might need to change your
configs. Read halcyon.announce for details: you should delete any
"hosts" file on your system, and do everything listed below.

News Server
-----------
Our news (aka NNTP) server is news.halcyon.com Don't use authentication.

Mail Server
-----------
Our mail server is mail.halcyon.com If you can't contact the server,
maybe you really have a domain name server (DNS) problem; see above.

Domain Name Server
------------------
The Internet Starter Kit books use 198.137.231.1 as the primary
domain name server. We've added a new, dedicated server at that
address, so problems you may have had in the past should go away.
Make sure that you use that as your primary name server, even if
we've told you to use a different IP in the past.

telnet Host Changed
-------------------
halcyon.com (aka halcyon.halcyon.com) isn't available for user logins
anymore. Use coho.halcyon.com or chinook.halcyon.com instead.

Busy Signals
------------
If you can, call 206/455-8455 instead of any other number. If you
need a Seattle number to avoid toll charges, use 447-4004, our new
Seattle local number. The 672-4554 number in Lynnwood sometimes rings
busy or no-answer; if you can, call the new Everett all-V.34 POP at
513-9459 for a better and more reliable connection.

- While you're waiting for an answer from us, try

* Using the "help" command at the shell prompt
* Using the "man", "localman", and apropos commands
(type "man man" for help; "localman" works just like "man")
* Posting questions in halcyon.general or halcyon.slip newsgroups
* Checking _The Internet Starter Kit_ book, if you have it,
or one of the other good Internet books.

Happy net.surfing!
