Turns out that the Canada Goose band numbers I read at Montlake Fill which
were initially reported as being from Michigan birds were reported
incorrectly. The numbers were reported as: 828-43260 and 828-43275. The
correct numbers are almost certainly 838-43260 and 838-43275. I probably got
confused with other bands read that day and mentally changed the 8-3-8 to
8-2-8 before writing them down. Whooops. Looks like I should follow my own
advice when reading band numbers in the field !!!!!!

The corrected details are:

0838-43260 1+ years old, 1 mile E. of Burbank, WA, 6/26/92
Seen, Montlake Fill, 2/20/95.
0838-43275 1+ years old, near Gibraltar, Michigan, 6/26/92
Seen, Montlake Fill, 2/20/95.

A bit less spectacular - ie more realistic. Turns out that long east<->west
movements are not unknown, but usually there is a good north<->south component
as well.

Anyway, undeterred, I was down at UW Playing Fields on Sunday night. I got 6
neck collars and 2 band numbers (triple-checked this time).

"Would you care for another slice of humble pie, Vicar ??"
"Eh, no thanks. I'm full already !!!"
