Hello, this is Portland Audubon Society's Rare Bird Alert. This
recording was made Thursday, July 13th. If you have anything to add,

The CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER continues to be seen at Mare's Egg Spring
along the West Side Rd. above Upper Klamath Lake. On JUL 9 it was
observed carrying food in its bill.

On JUL 7 a GILA WOODPECKER was reported at Wocus Bay in Klamath Marsh
refuge. [Likely female Williamson's Sapsucker? - gg]

On JUL 9 a GREAT GRAY OWL was near the Rocky Point parking lot on Upper
Klamath Lake.

On JUL 1 a territorial SOLITARY SANDPIPER was found at Ollalie Meadows
in the Cascades of Marion Co. If you plan to check it out, keep in mind
that the meadows are completely flooded.

The heavy storms of last weekend undoubtedly caused considerable damage
to many birds. It grounded the southward shorebird movement and large
flocks were reported from many areas - especially from the coast. Two
SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS were at the South Jetty of the Columbia River
JUL 12. Another was at the mouth of Hood River JUL 8.

RED-EYED VIREOS were noted along the Sandy River, in the Roslyn Lake
area north of Sandy, during the week. They were also seen at the mouth
of the Sandy River; at Smith-Bybee Lakes in North Portland; and at
Virginia Lake on Sauvie Island.

A [GREATER] WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE was with a couple hundred CANADA GEESE
on Sauvie Island JUL 6.

It appears that TREE and VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOWS have moved out of many
areas during the week and are heading south.

Two FRANKLIN'S GULLS and a partially albino EARED GREBE were at Lake
Abert JUL 3. [AMERICAN] AVOCETS and [WILSON'S] PHALAROPES are now
gathering at the lake.
