For Ptarmigan, I would recommend trails above Paradise at Mount
Rainier. I have seen the species between Paradise Point and McClure
Rock a number of times (elevation 6600-7300 feet). This area (also
known as the Muir Corridor as it leads up to Camp Muir) and Burroughs
Mountain (out of Sunrise) are the most accessible, extensive alpine
habitat in the Southern Cascades. Rosy finches and water pipits are
common also.

Please stay on the maintained trails because the alpine heath
communities are extremely fragile and the Park Service has invested
much time and $ in restoring the area.
