following Michael Brown's comments: On the Fourth of July I went to a
picnic at a house on Eld inlet, off Madrona Beach at the west end of
Olympia. A number of bird houses were on pilings in the intertidal
region, and they all seemed to be occupied by purple martins-at least one
house was close enough to hear calling young.
