Ocean Shores, Sat July 29, 1995

I saw some really neat stuff at Ocean Shores while managing to ignore the
freeway style traffic roaring up and down the beach - when I become World
President this sort of activity will be one of the first things to go :-)):

2500 - 3000 sanderling
5600 semi-palmated plover (1 juvenile)
7 marbled godwit
2700 western sandpipers
2 whimbrel
49 black-bellied plover
241 dowitchers
5 least sandpipers
24 ruddy turnstone

I also found 9 dead black-footed albatrosses, unfornately all were well past
their sell-by date, 3 marbled murrelets, 2 rhinocerous auklets, 5 common
murres, 3 sooty shearwaters and 1 fulmar (blue phase) - no bands though, SIGH.
I was getting some really funny looks from all the couch potatoes on the
beach, as I was poking around all these dead birds. I swear there were more
people sitting in their 4 wheel drives than were out on the beach - ah, beach
mall culture don't you just love it <barf>.
