Subject: Request: Slides of Alcids/VIREO address
Date: Jun 1 16:45:50 1995
From: Jon Anderson - anderjda at dfw.wa.gov
Folks,
I have had a request from Will Beattie from the Northwest Indian
Fisheries Commission for:
1: The address of the VIREO people, who have and sell slides of
practically all the birds one can think of.
2: Will would like to borrow/copy/buy (cheap?) some good slides or
photos of Common Murre, Rhinoceros Auklet, probably Western/Red-necked/
Horned Grebe in fall-winter plumage, Marbled Murrelet. Basically any of
the sea birds likely to be encountered by net fishers in Puget Sound from
August - November. We don't see the shearwaters, albatrosses and such
that get into the Japanese 30-mile long squid nets.
Will is trying to develop a handbook for treaty Indian gillnet salmon
fishers here in Puget Sound that will help them identify - and better
avoid - sea birds during their fisheries. The avoidance of these birds
and the reduction of sea bird impacts during salmon fisheries is a high
priority for both the Indian, as well as the non-treaty, fishing industry,
fishers, fisheries managers and the public.
If someone can help out please contact Will at:

Will says he has a spot on the net, but can't send yet...
