Tweets,

There was a question a few days ago asking if Black-capped Chickadees will
nest in the same box again, and if the landlord should clean it out. Well,
I had picked up this species' account in The Birds of North America life
history series (authored by Susan Smith) and the following is claimed:
Black-capped Chickadees rarely raise two broods in one season, and that they
rarely nest in the same place again in following seasons; it then talks about
how this helps to reduce parasites. It would be informative if the landlord
were to clean out the box and get another nest next year!

I apologize for using "landlord", but my "delete" key works faster than my
brain and I only remember the subject :-)

If anyone is interested in subscribing to this life history series (I'm sure
it's been talked about on Tweeters before - I'm relatively new to it), they
can call 1-800-627-0629 for information. Directly subscribing brings the
per species account price to < $5; at Flora and Fauna in downtown Seattle
it's $7.50 (but you can buy one at a time, not the 40 per volume otherwise).
