Tom,

Here's what I know on signature gathering. We need more help!!! We have
about a third of the signatures needed and we are about a third of the
way to the deadline. So, we still need lots of help.

If you would be willing to take a petition and sign it and return it,
please e-mail me and I promise to get it out promptly. If you are
willing to get your friends and colleagues to sign, so much the better.
If you are willing to volunteer to collect signatures, that would be
great! From my experience, huge events like Folklife are okay, but you
will probably have better luck at local supermarkets, farmers markets,
and libraries. If you would be willing to volunteer for an upcoming
event, like the Fremont Fair or Super Saturday at Evergreen State, let me
know. If you have a group and would
like training on signature gathering, let me know or you can call the
campaign office (223-3728).
I also have a list of county contact people if you are interested.

This effort is critical--I-164 becomes law unless we get over 90,000
signatures to put it on the ballot in November. If it does become law,
it requires taxpayers to compensate developers for any restrictions on
land use---we will be paying people not to fill wetlands, not to destroy
habitat, not to build mini-marts in residential neighborhoods, etc. Our
environmental and zoning protections are at serious risk if I-164 goes
into law.

Thanks for your help.
