Green-backed Herons often choose residential neighborhoods to
nest in. A friend of mine used to have a nest nearly every
year in a tree in front of her house, practically out over the
street. There is a slough perhaps 5-6 blocks away. The
neighborhood was single family urban residential, not far from
the University of Oregon. I have heard of at least two other
such nests. Hardly anyone seemed to realize that the nests were
there because the birds were so secretive.
