Today I visited the Capitol Lake area of Olympia. I saw a

juvenile D.C. Cormorant, two juvenile Bonaparte's Gulls, and a

Song Sparrow sans tail feathers (a juvenile?).

Also heard and seen was a Willow Flycatcher and G.B. Heron.

The R.W. Blackbirds became very agitated as I entered their

territory.

After a visit to Orca Books, I headed for home, but the lure

of Nisqually proved too strong. I did the Twin Barns loop and saw

Barn, Tree, and Cliff(1) Swallows, a Common Yellowthroat, lotsa

Rufous Hummingbirds, a jillion American Goldfinches (one female

chased by a female Rufous Hummingbird), Yellow Warblers, the

nesting Bald Eagles (from afar through my scope), numerous Cedar

Waxwings dining on Salmonberries, four Band-tailed Pigeons, and a

few R.T. Hawks.

Recently I have been lamenting the fact that I havn't seen a

Pileated Woodpecker in three or more years. Today while passing

Ft. Lewis on I-5, I saw one cross the freeway directly over my

car! Bonus!
