I am grateful that the CUH is doing something at Montlake,
but I have to agree that their stewardship seems sporadic
and less than whole-hearted. But I also can understand that
they are limited by a lack of resources to effectively manage
the fill. Several tweets have expressed a desire to have the
fill managed more actively for the sake of birds. Are we
willing to back this up with time spent working to make it
so? How about some tweeters work parties to rip out
Himalayan Blackberries, Scots Broom, etc., and replace them
with Salmonberry, Red-flowering Currant, and other native
plants? (Presuming the CUH would go along with this.) And it
would take an ongoing commitment to "weed" the margins of the
shorebird ponds annually...
