This is Kas Dumroese with the northern Idaho / eastern Washington /
northeastern Oregon bird hotline.

Jim Acton reports the CLAY-COLORED SPARROW first reported May 24
was still on station along the Centennial Trail east of Spokane on
June 1. The bird was 0.75 miles west of Harvard Road along the
Centennial Trail, specifically between AT&T cable markers 152 and
154. Harvard Road heads north from Interstate 90 toward Otis
Orchards. See Washington DeLorme p. 89, c-7.5. If you have any

Michael Smith reports a single male GRASSHOPPER SPARROW at
Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge on May 22. The bird was at
Stubblefield Lake. The refuge is south of Cheney, Washington
along the Cheney-Plaza Road. See Washington DeLorme p. 72, a-4.
About five males were singing at Kahlotus Ridge on May 19.

More recently, Dan Svingen reports a singing male GRASSHOPPER
SPARROW south of Grangeville, Idaho on June 3. The bird was along
the autotour for the Whitebird Battlefield just east of US 95.
Look for it about 50 yards west of the road at stop number 5.
Also there, between stops 2 and 3 in the riparian area was a
YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT. See Idaho DeLorme p. 54 and p. 55, right at
the bottom on the crease.

Unusual for the Palouse was a singing YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT on June
3 at the base of Moscow Mountain, reported by Dave Holick. It has
not been heard or seen since, however.
